About JB Simpkins

In a high-stakes enterprise environment, the friction between "moving fast" and "staying compliant" usually breaks the machine. Creative teams view operations as a roadblock while finance teams view creativity as a risk.

My career is built on dismantling that dichotomy. I view operations as a translation layer, using a background in advanced mathematics and education to look past rote mechanics and understand underlying structure.

At the Gates Foundation, my role was to bring order to unstructured information, building the taxonomies and common vocabulary that allowed disconnected systems to finally speak a common language.

Today, managing a $1.3 billion spend portfolio, I specialize in forensic operations. Standard automated systems are binary; they see a transaction as only pass or fail. I provide the "human-in-the-loop" insight to decode the intent behind complex initiatives, spotting subtle accounting mismatches and hidden privacy triggers that automated checklists miss.

True governance isn't about building a wall. It's about designing a filter. I build workflows that catch the signal, strip out the noise, and ensure that the organization moves with both speed and integrity.
